
DANIEL JAMIESON

With a commanding presence and dynamic leadership style, Daniel Jamieson has built an international reputation as a conductor and composer whose work captivates audiences worldwide. As a musical director, he has led live concerts, television and radio broadcasts, and recording sessions across North America and Europe. He is the conductor of the Strathmore Jazz Orchestra and leader of his own internationally acclaimed Danjam Orchestra, a 17-piece big band whose debut album, Sudden Appearance (2011), established his reputation for innovative compositions and bold arrangements.
Career highlights include the 2025 Celebrating Jim McNeely concert; the 2024 Freddie Hubbard Revisited project with the Danish Radio Big Band and Ingrid Jensen; the 2023 Toronto Jazz Festival with the Jazz Ambassadors Big Band, Ingrid Jensen, and Christine Jensen; the 2023 Jazz Education Network Conference with the Jazz Ambassadors Big Band and Sean Jones; the 2013 Edison Jazz & World Music Awards with the Metropole Orkest and Marcus Miller; and the 2012 John Coltrane Ballads Project with the Metropole Orkest and Joe Lovano.
Maintaining a full schedule of commissions, Jamieson’s compositions and arrangements are regularly showcased by premier ensembles such as the Metropole Orkest and the Danish Radio Big Band, where he has served as both writer and conductor. Additionally, he has written for the WDR Big Band, Boston Pops, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Cleveland Pops, and has performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. His work has been featured at notable events including the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Edison Jazz & World Music Awards, Tomorrowland, and the Toronto and Ottawa Jazz Festivals.
As a respected figure in the jazz and commercial music scenes, Jamieson has worked with a wide range of renowned artists, including Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman, Kurt Elling, Marcus Miller, Anthony Hamilton, Armin van Buuren, Jim McNeely, Luis Bonilla, Rufus Reid, Vince Mendoza, Miho Hazama, Richard DeRosa, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Darcy James Argue, Ingrid Jensen, Christine Jensen, Sean Jones, Warren Wolf, Sara Gazarek, Jon Gordon, John Riley, Dennis Mackrel, Scott Wendholt, Dick Oatts, Gary Smulyan, Rich Perry, Billy Drewes, Mike Holober, and Adam Birnbaum, among others.
In 2021, Jamieson solidified his role as a leader in jazz education by founding JazzComposersPresent.com, a groundbreaking platform that has become the world’s foremost online resource for jazz composition education and professional development, with members in over 15 countries. He has presented masterclasses at premier international institutions including Manhattan School of Music, Berklee College of Music, Eastman School of Music, Frost School of Music, University of North Texas, William Paterson University, Texas State University, Western Michigan University, University of Toronto, Humber College, University of Melbourne, and Birmingham City University.
Jamieson holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto, where he studied under Alex Dean and Tim Ries, and a Master of Music in Jazz Composition from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Dave Liebman and Jim McNeely. Since 2016, he has served as Staff Arranger and Music Producer for The U.S. Army Field Band.
