Check out this review of our CD in the August ‘11 issue of Downbeat! “… Alto saxophonist Daniel Jamieson grew up inspired by fellow Canadian Rob McConnell and with the formation of his Danjam Orchestra in 2008 picked up the mantle of the McConnell’s Boss Brass and Tentet… band is brass and reed heavy, but he leavens their clout on three of his eight pieces with the airy vocalese of Jihye Kim, and his own tuneful solo take on Charlie Chaplin’s Smile…”

Most of the album consists of his original writing for this ensemble, and it is varied in tempo, mood and style. I liked the linear feeling of “Song for Anna” and the “rush” of “Sudden Appearance.” The originals are surrounded by the opener, a very dissonant “Alone Together,” and the closer, a richly harmonic version of “Smile.”
